You’ve all probably seen this by now, but I present to you the best fan video ever made.
Glee meets Gilmore Girls? Our minds might just be blown right now. The former Wicked star signed on recently to the show, to be produced by Samantha Who? writer Bob Kushell. Deadline, who broke the news, said this of the series:
“Idina Menzel is headlining her own musical hourlong project, a mother-daughter relationship drama in the vein of Gilmore Girls. It will star the Broadway actress as the single mother of a teenager who, to make ends meet, waits tables and performs at weddings and bar mitzvahs, odd jobs that Menzel herself worked early on while pursuing a Broadway career.”
Life Unexpected creator Liz Tigelaar tweeted this: “Picture from wrap. i may have burst into tears when our DP gave me my own slate.” RIP Life Unexpected, a show gone before its time.
Darren Criss is many things. To his long-term fans he is an amazingly talented actor and musician; he played Harry Potter and then continued to wow us time and time again with his beautifully written songs and his unceasing charms. When those first chords played and the screen faded from black in Act 1, Part 1 of A Very Potter Musical we knew we we witnessing the start of something really special. For those who’ve known of him since the early days of Starkid he feels like an old friend, someone we conceit ourselves into thinking that we personally discovered. It’s easy to feel possessive of something like that; we saw him first, so how dare all those noob Gleeks out there claim to love him even a tenth as much as we do?
But Darren said it best in a tweet corresponding with his first appearance on the show: @DarrenCriss: StarKid fans, meet your new baby brother GLEE. We’re all family now, so play nice ok? Remember, this doesn’t mean that I love you any less.
You heard it straight from the man’s mouth; or at least his twitter account. Play nice. Asking him to choose would be like asking Tina Fey to choose between Mean Girls and 30 Rock. Nobody wants that. Both are brilliant, and both are worthy.

This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can’t think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.
Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, “Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER.” Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, “I’ll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!” Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?
I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don’t love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I’m also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can’t wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I’m making a Batman movie. Because there’s a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.
